The HLTAID004 Provide Emergency First aid Response in an Education and Care Setting course is designed to provide the leaner with skills in identifying and managing the risk of injury and illness in the workplace and provide the initial first aid response to the casualty until medical assistance is available. The course covers a wide range of scenarios related to trauma and medical events that may occur at home or at work.
It is suitable for all employees in an education and childcare environment who require training in providing that initial response first aid.
In addition, this unit of competency covers the management of asthma, anaphylaxis and the welfare of a child who has been exposed to a traumatic situation. This involves discussions around management options including counselling and debriefing.
Assessment is through a combination of a class knowledge assessment and practical first aid scenarios. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.
Foundation Skills Required:
Foundation skills are a series of underpinning communication skills required for participation in a workplace, community and in an adult education and training
Learning - ability to learn to provide a first aid response in the event of an emergency
Reading- to assist with administration of asthma & anaphylaxis treatment
Writing- to complete any incident reports
Oral communication – use 000/112 or any company emergency communications
Numeracy – to follow the recommended CPR ratio of compressions to breaths

RECOMMENDED RECERTIFICATION PERIOD
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, recommends that first aid skills are renewed every three years and resuscitation, asthma and anaphylaxis skills are renewed every 12 months.
Unique Student Identifier (USI): All Students completing a Nationally Recognised Course with receipt of a Statement of Attainment requires a USI which can be accessed from the USI website
